Stockholm-Uppsala is a goldmine of innovations flourishing in a supportive environment. Over 300 life science companies in a 100-km radius around Stockholm are active in product development and/or production. Scientists at the universities and healthcare personnel are encouraged to develop new healthcare solutions based on their research results or experiences. Research hospitals and universities in the region have a positive attitude to collaboration and offer cooperation in all stages of product development as well as opportunities to test concepts in projects or with early users.

Clinical development

The region has a proud history in clinical research fostered by a tradition of close collaboration between university hospital departments and industry. The Swedish Medical Products Agency, one of Europe’s foremost, offers scientific advice to pharmaceutical companies from all over the world. Science Parks

Karolinska Institutet Science Park
Karolinska Institutet Science Park AB is a commercial enterprise founded by Karolinska Institutet with the objective to offer an attractive and creative environment where innovative companies can grow, in close physical proximity to the academic research and education. KI Science Park AB offers modern office premises, incubators and first class laboratory facilities for both newly created and mature companies in the fields of Life Science, Medical Technology and Service Production.

Uppsala Science Park
Uppsala Science Park is located in the center of the campus created around Uppsala's two universities, where research and training are conducted at about 200 institutions. The park is located in close proximity to leading academic research institutions and companies including life science companies. A high concentrate of organizations from the service  sector ranging from those offering business and project planning, patents and legal matters, advice and assistance to venture capital.  (web site in Swedish).

Uppsala Business Park
Uppsala Business Park has a strong position in Life Science, bio-tech manufacturing and research, and there is continuing interest in establishment in the park with major lettings. The major lettings include the pharmaceutical manufacturer Kemwell with phased moving-in from July 2010 onwards and SweTreeTechnologies with phased moving-in from December 2010. (web site in Swedish).
